Stone Strong blocks were originally developed as a gravity retaining wall system including the ability for curved, straight, stepped and tiered walls. 45 and 90 degree corners as well as a range of end and stepped components allow for substantial construction versatility. Gravity design is based around the core 24SF (Square Foot) / 2.24 m2 face blocks with standard block widths of 1.1, 1.6 and 2.2 metres.
MSE design utilizes the 24SF 1.1m wide block with minor design changes to accommodate a range of geosynthetic and steel reinforcement including grids, webs, strip and mesh products sourced from a range of global suppliers. Where practicable, MSE design is based around utilizing available on site soils for wall backfill and reinforcement support, minimizing imported material costs.
Gravity and MSE walls can both be used on the same specific project – MSE walls accommodating higher retained heights or surcharge and structural loadings with gravity blocks used on lower height areas or in the top few metres of MSE walls where gravity retaining is suitable for design loadings.
