Stone Strong design is based on two main block components; a 24SF block for larger walls and a 6SF block designed to accommodate small walls. Front to back widths for the 24SF blocks vary between 1.1, 1.6 and 2.2m while the 6SF block can be produced down to 0.7m width. Large blocks can be used for a range of retaining wall requirements including bridge abutments, multiple use temporary works and high gravity walls. Small blocks allow for a tighter turning radius and vertical or horizontal face adjustments as needed. Inserts and liners in standard forms allow for top blocks, half blocks, taper gradient blocks, end blocks and caps. The system also includes a series of extended web 24SF blocks that can be used for taller gravity walls or for specialist piling applications and bridge abutment construction.
Blocks are cast in high quality machined forms for consistency; internal voids allow for material concrete savings as well as opportunities for structural reinforcement, through piling, internal retaining wall drainage and similar.
The system has undergone rigorous review by the US based Highway Innovative Technology Evaluation Center (HITEC) to verify conformance with AASHTO standards and specifications. Stone Strong system design, methodologies, and testing conform with the relevant standards of AASHTO, NCMA, and ASTM. NZ produced blocks and wall designs comply with NZ/AS 1170, NZTA Bridge Manual requirements – Third Edition and AS4678 – Earth Retaining Structures.
