River, Steam + Floodway Channels

Stone Strong has been used extensively in stream and floodway channels as well as bridge training works and erosion and scour protection around built infrastructure and new works. Due to their weight, backfilled blocks have substantial resistance to tractive forces from flowing water and can be used in high-energy environments.

Erosion Protection

Precast concrete is inherently resistant to erosion and tractive forces from flowing water and flood debris. Concrete faces can be modified to provide up to 330mm thick of solid double reinforced concrete to allow for severe direct erosion applications. Specialist designs are available to counter scour and undermining problems and the system can be combined with sheet piling to provide solutions for virtually any engineering application.

Due to their weight, backfilled blocks have substantial resistance to tractive forces from flowing water and can be used in relatively high-energy environments. Free draining backfill needs to be used to control internal pore pressures and aggregate needs to be sized to ensure no internal erosion occurs on block joins or similar.

Ponds + Borders

Stone Strong blocks have been extensively used on ponds and lake edges to provide a combination of aesthetic finishes while satisfying engineering requirements.

Marine Wharfs + Seawalls

Marine projects are a specialist niche application of the Stone Strong system with significant development work underway. Concrete block infill is generally standard for marine applications; we can offer a range of steel and polypropylene fibre reinforcement alternatives to rebar cages for infill applications or alternatively fiberglass-reinforcing bars can be used.

MSE walls can also be constructed within a marine/ tidal environment utilizing smaller sized free draining rock fill and combinations of Paragrid, Paraweb and Paraloop  reinforcement. These options are potentially very cost effective where the costs of establishing larger piling plant for conventional sheet pile or bored pile construction options are prohibitive.

Water Inlets + Flow Structures

Stone Strong blocks can be used for permanent water inlets, culvert outlets or flow structures. Stone Strong blocks can be used in conjunction with or as alternatives to gabion baskets or similar for specialist applications. Designs are available for block to gabion basket connections.
